Pinewood Derby?

ok, I have been challenged by several people to a Pinewood Derby ( the little cars that are like 2 in x 1 in x 6 in ) (both for looks and a race), but I do not have much experiance with this stuff, anyone have any tips to make my car go faster or look better? any help is appreciate. Thanks :)

  1. Look at the rules to determine the most that the car can weigh. Try to stay at or slightly below that weight. (This is the finished weight including paint.) The heavier the car the faster it will go. Cut the car into a wedge shape for aerodynamics. Cut the front end of the car at a slight angle up from the bottom of the car (like a sharpened pencil laying down.) This will prevent the front end of the car from hitting the track as it travels down the slope. Also round the corners in the front of the car to reduce friction and sticking points with the track as it travels. Finally, put graphite lubrication on the axles. Use a paper towel or Q-tip. Don't leave a pool on the wheels or it will slow the wheels down.
