Pinewood Derby Q&A

How do I make a fast pinewood derby car?

  1. my son won the pinewood derby with the car we made. We put most of the weight on the front end of the car. I went to home depot and got this powder to put on the axles and wheels, not sure what its called but you will find it in the department where they make keys. The people that work there will know what your talking about if you tell them what you want it for but its the stuff they lube up keys & locks with. Lube them up really good for a few days before and then again right before the race! good luck
  2. Make sure it runs "true" Perfectly straight and make it so that only 3 wheels actually touch (cuts drag). Put the weight either in the middle or closer to the front. Make sure you put on all the weight you can up to specs. The powder the previous person was talking about is graphite. That is outlawed in my Council and I'm pretty sure it is in all Council's. Good Luck and remember to have FUN!
