Pinewood Derby Q&A

With NO rules whatsoever, how would you design a Pinewood Derby car? Our company is having all of its stores design and build a pinewood derby car (starting with the official BSA kit) and then racing them all at its annual manager's meeting. The only rule is, there are no rules. Got any suggestions? The race will be in a standard pinewood derby format. Where they are released from about 4 feet in the air and roll down a slope, it ends in a straight away.

PINEWOOD DERBY EXPERTS??? My family has a pinewood derby race every year and they are obsessed with winning!? I have 6 Uncles and their sons along with my Brother, Father and Grandfather. I have married in Aunts as well who participate. I however am the only girl granddaughter and I would like to win this thing!!! Of course my first thought is search the internet for amazing tips....right? The problem is that they ALL search the internet. They are really crazy with their graphite, weights and little secrets! I also should mention that I come from a family of jewelers so they have any tool imaginable to drill, shape or create their car. I am looking for some expert physics or aerodynamics secrets. Something...that none of them would be able to find searching the internet. I know its a long shot but does anyone have any mathematical or engineering genius they could send my way. Any secret websites, surefire tips or designs? Last year I tried a C02 cartrige on one car. I was evidently the most creative but couldn't win cuz pinewood derby has specific guidelines! Pinewood Derby sites? I am racing a car in the open round of the Pinewood Derby. We are going to be doing this all as a family. My hubby has his car design picked out as does my son... But I am debating. I found two that are ok, but wanted to look around a little more before I settled on a design. Do you know of any sites that have designs or photos of cars?

Pinewood Derby? ok, I have been challenged by several people to a Pinewood Derby ( the little cars that are like 1 in x 1 in x 7 in ) (both for looks and a race), but I do not have much experiance with this stuff, does anyone have any ideas for a good-looking car and/or a fast car (either one or two dfferent cars) anyone have any tips or designs to help me out? any help is appreciate. Can anyone help me find templates for Pinewood Derby cars? My Cub Scouts are fairly new to the Pinewood Derby experience. I am trying to find design templates for the kids to use to trace their designs onto the block of wood that is provided. There is alot of information for sale out there, but I just need to give these beginners a few good ideas to start with. We aren't trying to win, just get a working car built.
