For the webelos/cub scouts Pinewood Derby car race, is the scout supposed to apply sealer to the wood first? Does sealer get applied to the wood car (cutout from the wood block) first, or does the yellow (or green) paint get applied first? Both the color paint and the sealer/paint came in the custom finishing kit. The instructions aren't clear.

How to punish my 7 year old for hurting my 8 1/2 year old? My younger son who will be 7 (Chris) in two weeks was upset with my 8 1/2 year old son (Ricky). Ricky was using the computer and it was his turn, Chris wanted to use it so he bit Ricky really hard, things escalated from there, Chris threw clothes hangers at him (plastic kind) and threw a smal broom as well as other stuff ended up punching him in the nose and hitting him hard in the chest, Ricky did hit back a little bit, but heended up coming down staris out of breath looking for his inhaler, he gets the croup a couple of times in the winter otherwise he does not use an inhaler.It was almost a hopsital trip. I llove both sons, but recently Chris told his friends that Ricky is dumb and that he is smarter than him. Ricky is on an IEP program and progressing well. The other thing is that Chris won the cub scout pinewood Derby recently. My son Chris has an ego and a temper and it is all about him. I don't know what to do, please help!

Simpe Pinewood Derby Instructions? Hello! We are building a Pinewood Derby car for a Cub Scout project. Unfortunatley we are very limited in what materials we have. No big power tools or anything like that. Heck barely any tools to begin with. Step by step instructions would be muy awesome and we would be forever grateful! Should they have a separate Pinewood Derby for the dads? It seems like few of the kids' cars in Cub Scouts were actually made by kids. Perhaps have a separate Pinewood Derby for the dads. Some people sell expert cars on ebay.

What is the difference between lacquer and polyurethane? My son and I need to finish his Pinewood Derby car for Cub Scouts and I have polyurethane, but I don't have lacquer. Is there a difference?

I learned that copper & aluminum(track) interact and push away from each other would this make a faster car? Cub Scouts and Pinewood Debry Races? We were just informed that my son will be going on to our distict derby race. What can we expect there? Does he use the same car or does he need to build a new one? If he is using the same car, can he work on it more so it will run faster?

Cub Scouts: Help us replace Space Derby with something else that's fun? Greetings All, Our cub scout leaders have agreed that the kids are bored with the classic activity Space Derby. They want something different but do not have a clue as to what. Any fresh ideas for a pack meeting with 39 kids indoors. We have all of the other events covered (ie, pinewood, cardboard carpet races, pop rockets, skits, blue gold awards, so on.) Thanks in advance. Again, our meetings are inside a church meeting hall with a decent amount of space... but nothing for like flying things, go carts, so on. =)

Anyone ever done a pinewood derby car race?? My son is a tiger cub and this will be our first year doing the race. It has to be by Boy Scouts regulations. Any suggestions on building a winning car? They gave us a small box with a block of wood and 4 crappy tires.. I've looked online but every site wants you to pay for their book.

(please details!!!)? my son is in cub scouts and we are having a rocket derby. kinda like the pinewood derby you have to build your rocket, out of wood, then you can paint it and put a design on it. Can anyone help me find templates for Pinewood Derby cars? My Cub Scouts are fairly new to the Pinewood Derby experience. I am trying to find design templates for the kids to use to trace their designs onto the block of wood that is provided. There is alot of information for sale out there, but I just need to give these beginners a few good ideas to start with. We aren't trying to win, just get a working car built.
